Just for Today

Reiki, which is a natural healing technique that uses a gentle laying on of hands, was founded in 1922 in Japan by Mikao Usui. It literally translates to universal (“rei”) energy (“ki”). Reiki uses a very powerful yet gentle energy that has been known to help practically every known illness of the mind, body, and spirit. Reiki energy is incredibly smart, and it will go to whichever part of the body is in need of its healing energy, regardless of where the practitioner may try to direct it. For this reason, there’s no way to give reiki in a wrong way or mess up the treatment – in actuality, the practitioner is just a channel for the energy to move through. I became a Usui Reiki Master in 2017, and I (jokingly) like to think of it as “spiritual Drano,” helping to clear any energetic blocks or clogs and relax, energize, balance, and align our energetic and physical bodies.

One of the things we learn during reiki training and attunement is the Reiki Ideals, which are five principles for the path to spiritual advancement. Remembering these ideals allows us to live reiki in daily life, even when we’re not getting a treatment. During times of stress or uncertainty (hello 2020), it’s helpful to keep these principles in mind to ground us and give us some perspective. They were shared with me by Reiki Rays of Hope, and I share them with you now in the hope that they may bring you comfort and stability when you need an anchor to come back to.

Just for today, I will let go of anger.

Just for today, I will let go of worry.

Just for today, I will be grateful for my many blessings.

Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.

If you’re still feeling overwhelmed or stressed, try getting grounded – it takes under a minute.
