How to Get Grounded in Under a Minute

Life can be chaotic. Often, we feel overwhelmed by things that happen outside of our homes, whether it’s at our jobs, with our social lives, or even through events that occur within the larger political climate of the country.

When life begins swirling around us and we don’t know what to tackle first, it’s important to take a moment to ground ourselves. When we ground, we gather and balance our personal energy, anchoring ourselves to Mother Earth. This helps focus and clear our minds, calm our nerves, and release stress. And the best thing is that it can be done in less than a minute. Here is a quick and easy technique I use to ground myself, shared with me by Reiki Rays of Hope.

  • Spread your feet six to eight inches apart and flex your knees to give yourself a solid foundation.

  • Bring all ten fingertips together and place them at a point about one inch below your navel.

  • Close your eyes.

  • Take five deep, slow breaths so that your stomach is pushing your fingers in and out.

  • Imagine roots growing out of the soles of your feet deep into the Earth and your feet feeling very heavy and weighted.

Use this technique whenever you’re overwhelmed, stressed, confused, or just generally out of sorts, and you want to feel calm and in control. It will help you to think clearly so that you can move forward from an authentic place. People are always more attracted to those who have a grounded presence, so use this technique before job interviews, dates, or doctor’s appointments to create a calm and focused presence.

Since you only need yourself and one minute, you can practice getting grounded almost anywhere and at any time. It’s one of the best things we can do to tend to ourselves. I invite you to try it today and see how you feel!
